Creating an online presence
Using social media as an educator is COMPLETELY different than using is as a normal member of society and should be done with caution. Here are a few tips and resources to help guide you in creating a "teacher" social media account:
- Use your professional name (Mrs. Padgett) or your classroom (Mrs. Padgett's Classroom)
- Only post, repost or share things you wouldn't mind your administrators, learners and parents seeing. Play it safe by sticking to posts on how to use tools, district published articles, what you're doing in your classroom.
- If using pictures of learners, make sure you have their permission- double check the "no photo" list!
- Try not to use social media as a way to communicate directly with learners- avoid reminders about work, due dates, etc.
- Follow other accounts for your school- clubs, administrators, teachers, tech tools you use in class, and educational experts or icons. Avoid following political figures or controversial topics- save them for your private account!
- Share your learner's work, products, and ideas- even if it's in the process of being done. You can even use it as a teaser for what's in store for the future.
- Your social media can also be a tool within the classroom as well- see below!
